Extinct Birds 

• ARCHAEOPTERYX
  

 ARCHAEOPTERYX - This bird was the first bird in the world to be present on Earth during PREHISTORIC period. It originated 140 million years ago. Archaeopteryx bird has found only two fossils all over the world.  One of these fossils is housed in the Royal Museum of the UK and the other in the Maharaja College of Rajasthan University.

• DROMORNIS STIRTONI
  

 DROMORNIS STIRTONI - Dromanis, a bird weighing between 500 and 600 kg, was one of Australia's unique giant birds.  Which existed between the time of one and a half million to 26000 years ago.  This bird was called Mihirang bird.

•  RAPHUS CUCULLATUS 
  

 RAPHUS CUCULLATUS - Dodo is the most prominent of extinct birds. Dodo was a local bird from the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.  This bird was a close relative of the pigeon but it was 3.3 feet in height while weighing about 20 kg.

•  TASMANIAN EMU
  

 TASMANIAN EMU - This is a species of bird.  This bird was not able to fly. It was found in large numbers in Tasmania, but later farmers, like the Tasmania Tiger, hunted it and killed almost all the birds, considering it a crop-destroying bird.

• CAROLINA PARAKEET
  

 CAROLINA PARAKEET - Carolina parakeet was the only parrot species.  Which were found in North America.  They were hunted in large quantities to make hats for women.  Due to which their number kept decreasing continuously and finally Carolina Parakeet died in Cincinnati Zoo in 1918.

• PASSENGER PIGEON
  

 PASSENGER PIGEON - Passenger pistons were once present in large quantities in North America.  These pigeons were very similar to our Indian pigeons but their color and shape was slightly different from our pigeons. People of European countries started hunting for them in the greed of cheap mass, thus its entire species became extinct in this way Cincinnati  The species became completely extinct with the death of Martha, the last pigeon in the zoo (1914). Humans are the main reason for the destruction of this species.

• ARCHAEOPTERYX
  

ARCHAEOPTERYX - यह पक्षी दुनिया का सबसे पहला पक्षी था जो धरती पर PREHISTORIC काल में मौजूद था ।जिसकी उत्पत्ति 140 करोड़ साल पहले हुई थी।Archaeopteryx पक्षी के पूरे विश्व में सिर्फ दो फॉसिल्स मिले हैं। इनमें से एक फॉसिल यूके के रॉयल म्यूजियम में तथा दूसरा फॉसिल राजस्थान यूनिवर्सिटी के महाराजा कॉलेज में रखा हुआ है।

• DROMORNIS STIRTONI 
  

DROMORNIS STIRTONI - 500 से 600 किलो वजन वाला पक्षी ड्रोमानिस ऑस्ट्रेलिया के विशिष्ट विशाल पक्षियों में से एक था। जो  डेढ़ करोड़ से 26000 वर्ष पूर्व तक के समय के मध्यम मौजूद था। इस पक्षी को मिहिरंग  पक्षी कहा जाता था।

• RAPHUS CUCULLATUS
  

RAPHUS CUCULLATUS-  विलुप्त पक्षियों में डोडो सबसे प्रमुख है।डोडो हिंद महासागर के द्वीप मारीशस का एक स्थानीय पक्षी था। यह पक्षी कबूतर का नजदीकी रिश्तेदार था परंतु इसकी ऊंचाई 3.3 फीट थी,जबकि वजन करीब 20 किलो था।

• TASMANIAN EMU
  

TASMANIAN EMU - यह पक्षी की एक प्रजाति है। यह पक्षी उड़ नहीं पाता था ।तस्मानिया में काफी तादाद में पाए जाते थे,लेकिन बाद में वहां के किसानों ने तस्मानिया टाइगर की तरह ही इसे एक फसल को नष्ट करने वाला पक्षी मानते हुए, इसका शिकार किया और लगभग सारे पक्षी को मार डाला।

• CAROLINA PARAKEET
  

CAROLINA PARAKEET - कैरोलिना पैराकीट  एकमात्र तोते की प्रजाति थी। जो कि उत्तरी अमेरिका में पाए जाते थी । महिलाओं के लिए हैट बनाने के लिए इनका शिकार बड़ी मात्रा में किया जाता था। जिससे इनकी संख्या लगातार कम होती चली गई और आखिर कैरोलिना पैराकीट की मौत सिनसिनाटी जू में सन 1918 में हो गई थी।

• PASSENGER PIGEON
  

PASSENGER PIGEON - पैसेंजर पिजन कभी उत्तरी अमेरिका में भारी मात्रा में मौजूद थे। यह कबूतर हमारे भारतीय कबूतर की तरह ही थे लेकिन इनका रंग और आकार हमारे कबूतर से थोड़ा अलग था।बाद यूरोपीय देश के लोग सस्ते मास के लालच में उन्होंने इसका शिकार करना शुरू कर दिया,इसी तरह इसकी सारी प्रजाति विलुप्त हो गई इस तरह सिनसिनाटी चिड़ियाघर में मौजूद आखरी कबूतर मार्था की मौत (सन 1914) के साथ यह प्रजाति पूरी तरह से विलुप्त हो चुकी।इस प्रजाति के विनाश का मुख्य कारण भी इंसान ही हैं।
